Baked Churro Recipe (with Nutella)

Let’s cook a Spanish dessert, popular all over the world, in the oven. Let’s fill them with Nutella to make them even tastier.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • Sugar – 1-2 tablespoon.
  • Butter – 110 g
  • Water – 225 ml.
  • Salt – 1/4 teaspoon.
  • Flour – 140 g
  • Eggs – 3 pcs.

Topping:

  • Sugar – 100 g
  • Cinnamon – 1 teaspoon.

Directions

  1. Pour the water into a medium saucepan, add the butter, salt, and sugar.
  2. Bring it to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Reduce the heat down to low and add the flour.
  4. Stir the mass rapidly until the dough starts to come off the walls and becomes homogeneous. Keep the dough over low heat for 1 more minute stirring constantly.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the eggs one by one, each time stirring well until completely homogeneous, and only then add the next egg. Add the vanilla extract and stir the mass well again.
  6. Put the dough into a piping bag with a star tip.
  7. Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Mix them well.
  8. Cover the baking tray with parchment paper and form sticks about 10 cm long. Leave a gap of 3 to 4 cm between them. Sprinkle them slightly with water.
  9. To prevent the churros from browning more on the bottom than on the top, place them on another baking tray.
  10. Place the churros into the oven preheated up to 200 degrees and bake them for about 20 minutes or until browned. Then turn off the oven and leave them for another 10 minutes to dry out slightly. Take them out of the oven.
  11. While the churros are still hot, coat them in the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  12. If you want to fill the churros with Nutella, use a toothpick or straw to make some holes on both sides.
  13. Put the Nutella into the piping bag and fill one side first and then the other.
