Herring and Apple Appetizer

This herring and apple dish is quite simple to prepare – the herring, apples, egg and butter are ground in a kitchen processor. A snack is served, such as crackers, toast, etc.

Ingredients

  • Salted herring, fillet – 250 g
  • Eggs – 2 pcs.
  • Onions (chopped) – 1 pc.
  • Apple – 1 pc.
  • Butter at room temperature – 40 g
  • Odourless vegetable oil – 45 g
  • Green onions (chopped) for serving

How to make a herring and apple snack

Directions

  1. Soak salted herring in cold water overnight. The next day, rinse the herring under running water and dry.
  2. Put eggs in a saucepan, cover with cold water, bring to a boil. Reduce heat and boil for 10 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, in a large skillet over medium heat, heat the oil, add the onions, fry for 10 minutes, until soft.
  4. Put the eggs in cold water. Peel the cooled eggs, separate the yolks from the whites.
  5. Peel and cut the apples. Place in a processor bowl, add fillet, yolk and butter. Pulsate until pasty (or small pieces). Transfer the mixture to a bowl, add the fried onions, stir.
  6. Finely chop the egg whites. Put the herring and apple appetizer on a serving plate, sprinkle with egg white and green onions. Serve the herring and apple snack immediately.
