Ingredients

  • 4 cups basmati rice
  • 2 cups lentils (Adas)
  • 2 onions)
  • cinnamon
  • cardamom
  • salt and pepper
  • oil
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup date (s)
  • 1 handful almond sticks
  • sugar
  • 1 potato (s)
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ saffron

Instructions

  1. The cup should hold approx. 150 ml. Soak the lentils in water the night before.
  2. Fry the onions finely chopped in oil and add to the lentils, season with salt and pepper and cook until the lentils are cooked through.
  3. Cut the dates into small pieces and fry them briefly in the pan with the raisins that have previously been soaked in water for 10 minutes, adding a little sugar and almond sticks if desired.
  4. Boil the rice and put the cooked rice in a bowl.
  5. Put plenty of oil or, better still, clarified butter in the pot (the rice cooker if available) and line the bottom of the pot with potato slices.
  6. Dissolve the saffron in hot water and place in layers with the rice, the cooked lentils and the fried dates and raisins and some cinnamon (cardamom if desired) in the rice cooker. Let it steep for 30 - 45 minutes.
