Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 250 g butter
  • 300 grams flour
  • 4 tablespoon orange blossom water

For the filling:

  • 250 g date (s)
  • 100 g almond (s)
  • 50 g walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon, leveled cinnamon
  • 5 tablespoon orange blossom water
  • Oil, for deep-frying
  • Powdered sugar, to look after

Instructions

  1. Stone the dates and peel the brown skin from the almonds.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan and add the peeled almonds. Fry for 5 minutes over high heat, dry on a cloth and chop in the food processor.
  3. Chop the dates and walnuts in the machine.
  4. Add the chopped almonds, cinnamon and orange blossom water and continue to chop until a smooth paste is formed.
  5. Shape the filling into small dates. I got 82 pieces.
  6. For the dough, knead the flour, butter and orange blossom water. Take one ball of dough in your hand and press it flat, place a date over it, wrap the dough in it and press the ends flat (looks like a small ship). Press the dough quite thin, as it contains a lot of fat and otherwise it will be too thick.
  7. The finished wrapped haloua should have a weight of approx. 12 grams.
  8. Bake the haloua at approx. 200 degrees for approx. 18 minutes, allow to cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
