  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ salt
  • 0.5 ½ cube yeast, fresh
  • 65 g butter
  • 250 ml milk
  • 1 egg (s), whisked
  • 1 teaspoon milk, for brushing

Instructions

  1. August 1st Wegge are a pastry in Switzerland that is traditionally eaten for breakfast on August 1st, the national holiday. They can be eaten pure or coated with butter and also eaten with jam or cheese / sausage.
  2. Mix the flour and salt in a deep bowl and form a well. Crumble the yeast in a cup and dissolve it with a little lukewarm milk. Pour into the well, dust with a little flour and let rise until the yeast bubbles.
  3. Melt the butter in a pan, take it off the fire and add the milk to it. Add to the flour with the egg and work everything into a smooth dough. Knead for 10-15 minutes until the dough is elastic. Shape 1 large or 4 small rolls and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  4. Let rise at room temperature for 15 minutes and then cool for 15 minutes.
  5. Brush with milk. Cut the rolls in a cross shape, creating a Swiss cross when baking.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 ° C for 20-30 minutes, depending on the size. Take out and let cool down.
