Ingredients

  • 1 ciabatta
  • 4 large beefsteak tomatoes, ripe
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 8 tablespoon olive oil, cold-pressed
  • Basil, fresh
  • pepper
  • salt
  • possibly cheese (pecorino)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Scald tomatoes with hot water, peel, core and dice. Cut bread into slices and bake for about 10 minutes. Press the garlic, spread it on the warm bread and drizzle with half of the oil.
  2. Mix the tomatoes with the cut basil and the remaining oil, season with salt, pepper, spread on the bread, garnish with basil and possibly fresh pecorino (hard Italian cheese made from sheep`s milk).
  3. Food is prepared quickly, eaten slowly, with all your senses and time for conversation, with wine and a top espresso: black, sweet, hot. That is the way of life in Italian. Let yourself be inspired and bring something back home with you.
