Club Sandwich in an Italian Bun

A club sandwich is a large sandwich in several layers. The ingredients can be very varied, depending on your preference. Sausage, cheese and vegetables are the best combination for this sandwich.

Ingredients

  • Olive or other vegetable oil – 4 tbsp
  • Medium onion (cut into strips) – 2 pcs.
  • Italian bread, loaf or baguette (12.5×7.5 cm) – 1 pc.
  • Red wine vinegar – 3 tbsp
  • Aragula – 1 bunch
  • Salami (thinly sliced) – 200 g
  • Mozzarella (thinly sliced) – 250 g
  • Red pepper (fried and peeled) – 2 pcs.
  • Tomato – 2 pcs.
  • Hot canned peppers (cut into strips) – 100 g

Directions

  1. In a large skillet, heat 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Pour onions. Stir and cook for 20 minutes. Set aside. Cut the bread horizontally into 3 pieces.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk the vinegar and remaining oil with a whisk or fork. Grease slices of bread with the resulting mixture. Add aragula to the remaining oil mixture. Mix well.
  3. To assemble the sandwich: spread the aragula, salami, cheese and pepper on the lowest layer.
  4. Put the second piece of bread on the pepper, and put the tomatoes on top. Put onion, pepper, salami and aragula on the tomatoes. And on top of everything, the last piece of bread. Using light pressure, wrap the sandwich in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour, until the juice from the ingredients soaks the bread. Serve chopped into thick pieces with a fork and knife.
