Ingredients

  • 400 g herrin fillet (s)
  • 1 apple, sour
  • 1 medium onion (s)
  • 2 pickled cucumber (s)
  • 6 allspice grains
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 cup sweet cream, approx. 200 g
  • 1 cup sour cream, approx. 200 g
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Cucumber liquid
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. First place the matjes fillets on kitchen paper and use them to soak up the excess oil. Then cut the herring into pieces approx. 3 - 4 cm in size.
  2. Put the sweet and sour cream in a bowl, add the bay leaves and allspice grains and stir in the diced cucumber and peeled apple pieces. Cut the onion into half rings and add the cucumber liquid and sugar with a sip. Stir everything well and fold in the herring. Finally, add a few turns of ground pepper.
  3. Cover everything and let it steep in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours.
  4. To serve, boil jacket potatoes and serve with the cream herring while still hot.
  5. Since the herring is already salted in oil, you don`t need to add salt here. However, since the salt content differs from brand to brand, you have to decide for yourself whether there is still salt left depending on your taste.
