- Briefly soak the herring fillet in cold water. Then dry off and cut into small pieces. In the meantime, boil the eggs hard and chill them in cold water. When cool, cut into small cubes. Peel the onion. Cut into small cubes together with the pickled cucumber. Mix all ingredients together and season with freshly ground pepper. If the hackle gets too dry, you can add a little cucumber water to it - of course only a little. Now rinse the dill and shake dry. Then cut finely and sprinkle over the hackers.
