Chickpea Sweets with Prunes and Cocoa

by Editorial Staff

Delicious homemade sweets made from boiled chickpeas with prunes, cocoa powder, and honey are a great alternative to store-bought sweets. There are only five main ingredients, and the taste turns out to be a real delicacy – sweet, delicate sweets with a bright chocolate taste, with hints of prunes and an appetizing, slightly crispy crust of fried sesame seeds. Try it!

Ingredients

  • Dry chickpeas – 140 g
  • Pitted prunes – 100 g
  • Honey – 50-70 g
  • Cocoa powder – 30-50 g
  • White sesame – 100 g
  • Salt – 1 pinch
  • Vanilla Flavor – 5 drops (or to taste)

Directions

  1. Soak the chickpeas in advance. Pour 1-1.5 liters of cold water over the chickpeas and leave at room temperature for 6-8 hours or overnight to swell the chickpeas. Then drain the water, and rinse the chickpeas and fold them onto a sieve.
  2. Place the chickpeas in a saucepan and cover with clean cold water (1.5 L). Bring the water to a boil and simmer the chickpeas over low heat until soft, about 60-70 minutes. The chickpea is ready when you can crush it by simply squeezing it with your fingers. Drain the finished chickpeas. Cool the chickpeas for 5-10 minutes until warm.
  3. Meanwhile, heat a dry skillet over medium heat and saute the sesame seeds, stirring occasionally, for 4-5 minutes, until golden brown. Put the toasted sesame seeds on a plate and cool.
  4. Place slightly cooled boiled chickpeas and prunes in a blender bowl. At this stage, you can whisk the chickpeas and prunes for 3-5 minutes to make the blender’s work easier.
  5. Add honey, cocoa powder, a pinch of salt, and vanilla flavor. Add cocoa powder and honey gradually. Start with 30 grams of cocoa and 50 grams of honey and then try the mixture. Add more honey and cocoa powder as needed, increasing the intensity of the chocolate flavor or sweetness.
  6. Whisk the mixture for another 4-5 minutes, until smooth. The mass turns out to be quite thick and viscous, like dough. If necessary, you can add 1-2 tablespoon. tablespoons of boiled water, so that the process of grinding and mixing the components is easier. Add water in 1 tbsp, controlling the consistency of the mixture. It should remain thick and maintain its shape easily when shaped into a ball.
  7. Divide the resulting mixture into portions and roll into balls of the desired size. Dip each ball in toasted sesame seeds.
  8. Place the resulting candies in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours to cool. When chilled, the candies will become slightly denser and hold their shape better.

Enjoy your meal!
