Potatoes with Lard and Onions on Skewers (in the Oven)

Plain potatoes turn into an original dish with a little imagination. Today I am sharing one of these wonderful recipes – “kebab” from potatoes in the oven. Potatoes with bacon and onions are baked in foil, making them very soft and tasty. In our family, skewer potatoes are very popular, try it too!

Ingredients

  • Potatoes – 500 g
  • Onions – 130 g
  • Salted lard (or fresh) – 50 g
  • Salt – 2 pinches
  • Ground black pepper – 2 pinches

Directions

  1. Prepare all the necessary ingredients for baking potatoes with lard and onions. I used salted lard, but you can use fresh. You can also substitute bacon or boiled-smoked brisket for lard. Turn on the oven and let it heat up to 200 degrees.
  2. Peel potato tubers of approximately the same size and shape, rinse,
    and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Cut the potatoes into slices about 0.5 cm thick.
  4. Transfer the potato slices to a bowl, add salt and black pepper. Stir.
  5. Cut the bacon into thin slices about the size of potato slices.
  6. Cut the onion too, but not into rings (as for a kebab), but into squares, similar to slices of bacon.
  7. String potato slices tightly onto wooden skewers, alternating with slices of bacon and onion in a chaotic manner.
  8. Now wrap each potato skewer with bacon and onion in foil (shiny side inward).
  9. Transfer the foil-wrapped potatoes to a baking dish, or place directly on a baking sheet.
  10. Bake the potatoes in a 200-degree oven for about 35 minutes. Depending on the type of potato, the baking time can vary from 25 to 40 minutes.(Such “kebabs” can be cooked over coals, in the open nature, replacing wooden skewers with metal skewers.)
  11. Serve the cooked potatoes on skewers with bacon and onions without unrolling the foil so that the dish does not cool down prematurely. Let each eater unwrap his own portion and enjoy this original dish.
