Bobele (Yeast Potato Pie)

Bobele is a hearty Israeli dish, potato casserole, or rather, yeast potato pie. This pie is made from raw potatoes, with fried onions. An interesting recipe, bobele turns out to be very unusual in taste.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes – 600 g
  • Bulb onions – 2 pcs.
  • Eggs – 2 pcs.
  • Vegetable oil – 3 tbsp
  • Water – 60 ml
  • Fresh yeast – 20 g
  • Wheat flour – 200 g
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon (to taste)
  • Ground black pepper – 1/4 teaspoon

Directions

  1. Prepare the dough. Add sugar, a tablespoon of flour, and yeast to warm (about 37 degrees) water, mix.
  2. While the dough is coming up, prepare the potatoes. Peel and grate the potatoes on a coarse grater.
  3. Add 0.5 teaspoons of salt, eggs, 1.5 tablespoon to the dough. tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add flour. And send the grated potatoes here.
  4. Stir the potato dough with a spoon. Inconsistency, it should be similar to pancake dough.
  5. Chop the onion not very finely. In a skillet in the remaining vegetable oil, fry the onions until lightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper onions.
  6. Put half of the fried onions in a suitable dish on the bottom, spread over the surface.
  7. Then place the potato dough and place the remaining fried onions on top.
  8. Bake potato pie with onions in a preheated oven at 160-170 degrees for about 40-45 minutes.
  9. Hot bobele is like a potato casserole. The cooled bobele is more like a potato pie and is very well cut into pieces.
