Hominy with Milk

This recipe will tell you how to properly prepare hominy from corn flour. And we recommend serving hominy with milk!

Cook: 1 hour 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Corn flour – 1 glass
  • Water – 3 glasses
  • Milk – 0.5 l
  • Salt – 0.5 teaspoon (to taste)

Directions

  1. Prepare food.
  2. Boil water in a cauldron, salt it.
  3. First add a handful of cornmeal to boiling water, which will slightly knock down the boil.
  4. Then, when the water boils again, add all the rest of the flour, while stirring constantly.
  5. Place a wooden stirrer (spatula, rolling pin) in the middle of the cauldron. Cook the hominy over low heat for 25-30 minutes, stirring all the time. (Cooking times may vary, depending on the degree of grinding of the cornmeal.)
  6. Then reduce the heat, level the surface of the mamalyga with a spoon or a silicone spatula dipped in water. Cook hominy for another 10-15 minutes, until it is completely thickened.
  7. The finished hominy should lag behind the walls of the cauldron. Let the hominy cool slightly, about 15 minutes.
  8. Then shake the cauldron well several times and, turning it upside down, put the hominy on a clean board or napkin (but not on a dish). Correctly cooked hominy should retain its shape and not fall apart when laid out from the cauldron.
  9. Cut the finished hominy with coarse thread or a wooden knife into portions.
  10. Put the hominy on plates with a spoon dipped in hot water. In this form, hominy can be served as a side dish.
  11. Or you can boil milk, pour hot milk over the hominy and serve it as an independent dish, for example, for breakfast.
