Hot Sandwiches with Cheese and Sweet Onions

Very simple, tasty, and satisfying. As a “snack” – what you need. You can take any hard cheese and our mustard, or you can add sophistication to these modest sandwiches – Gruyere cheese, Dijon mustard … Very original sandwiches are obtained in any of the options!
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- Butter, unsalted, softened – 3 tbsp
- Olive oil, first cold-pressed – 1 tbsp
- Large onions, cut into half rings – 1 pc.
- Salt
- Ground black pepper
- Wheat bread – 8 slices
- Dijon mustard
- Gruyere cheese, thinly sliced
- Pickled cucumbers, thinly sliced - 2 pcs.
Directions
- In a skillet, melt the butter and olive oil. Add the onion, cover, and fry for about 5 minutes, stirring 1-2 times. Remove the lid and fry the onion over moderate heat for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally (add water, if necessary, no more than ¼ cup). Season with salt and pepper onions.
- Brush the bread with the remaining 2 tablespoons. l. butter. Turn over and brush the other side with mustard. Place the onion, cheese, cucumbers over four slices, and cover the sandwich.
- Grill the sandwiches or in a skillet over low heat for about 10 minutes, until the cheese melts (lightly press the sandwiches in the skillet with a spatula). Cut in half and enjoy!
