Poppy Seed Cake with Nuts

The pie is tender and creamy, with an interesting texture thanks to the addition of poppy seeds. Pie dough is made with eggs and melted butter. Sprinkle nuts on top of the cake before baking – they become crispy and make the cake even tastier.

Ingredients

Butter – 150 g + for form preparation
Eggs (category C0) – 3 pcs.
Sugar – 180 g
Flour – 200 g (1.5 cups with a capacity of 200 ml) + for preparing the mold
Poppy – 100 g
Nuts – 30 g
Baking powder – 1 teaspoon with a slide
Powdered sugar (for serving, optional) – 1 tbsp

Directions

Prepare your ingredients.
Turn on the oven to preheat to 180 ° C.
Prepare a baking dish 20 cm in diameter. Line the bottom and sides of the dish with parchment or brush with a thin layer of butter and lightly dust with flour.
Melt the butter in the microwave or on the stove and let cool completely.
Grind the nuts (I have walnuts) into not very small crumbs.
In the bowl in which you will knead the dough, beat the eggs – beat for 1-2 minutes.
Without stopping whisking, add all the sugar in several steps. Continue whisking until fluffy and dense.
Pour the poppy into the resulting egg mass and stir in with a spatula.
While stirring the mass, add the cooled butter in portions. Stir until smooth.
Sift flour with baking powder and add to the mixture in two steps. Stir.
The dough should be smooth and moderately thick.
Fill the prepared mold with dough and smooth the surface.
Sprinkle an even layer of nuts over the cake.
Bake the poppy seed cake in an oven preheated to 180 ° C for about 45 minutes (note that the time may vary depending on the characteristics of the oven). Check the readiness of the cake with a wooden skewer: it should come out of the center dry and clean, without traces of batter.
Remove the cake from the oven and let cool completely on the wire rack.
Remove the cooled poppy seed cake from the mold, place it on a plate, and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
The poppy seed cake is ready.
