Hot Dog with Fried Onions and Pickles (in a Pan)

An interesting hot dog option from simple and affordable products is a soft bun with juicy sausage, crispy fried onions, and pickles! An excellent filling snack that is very easy to prepare.

Servings: 2
Ingredients
- Hot dog buns – 2 pcs.
- Sausages – 2 pcs.
- Pickled cucumbers – 1 pc.
- Bulb onions – 1 pc.
- Wheat flour – 1 tbsp
- Vegetable oil (for frying) – 40 ml (2-3 tablespoons)
- Mustard – 1 teaspoon
- Ketchup – 1 tbsp
- Mayonnaise – 1 tbsp
- Fresh dill – 1-2 branches
Directions
- Peel the onion and cut it into half rings.
- Transfer the flour to a flat plate suitable for bread. Dip the onion half rings in flour.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet. Shake excess flour off the onion. Place the onions in the skillet. While stirring, sauté the onion over high heat for about 2-3 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer the onions from the skillet to a plate, and fry the sausages in the same skillet in the remaining oil. If you’re making hot dogs at a picnic, you can grill the sausages over the coals for even better results!
- Cut pickled cucumbers into long slices.
- Toast the hot dog buns on all sides in a dry skillet.
- Slice through the toasted buns on one side, but not all the way through, to create pockets for the filling. You can either remove some of the crumbs from the buns or tighten them with your fingers so that the filling fits more comfortably inside the buns.
- Brush the inside of the buns with mustard and ketchup.
- Now put pickles inside the buns.
- Place a sausage over the cucumbers.
- Place the fried onions on top of the sausages.
- Top the hot dogs with mayonnaise and garnish with herbs.
