Choux Mustard Lavash (in a Pan)

It is not at all necessary to buy pita bread in the store, because you can cook it yourself at home – in a frying pan. A simple recipe for mustard lavash made from choux pastry, which goes well with almost any filling – processed cheese, sausage, or pâté. An excellent base for envelopes and lavash rolls and a good alternative to bread.

Cook: 30 minutes

Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour – 200 g
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tbsp
  • Mustard – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water – 200 ml

For the filling (optional):

  • Processed cheese – 150 g

Directions

  1. Sift the flour into a deep bowl.
  2. In a saucepan, combine water with mustard, vegetable oil, and salt. Mix well. We put on strong heat and bring to a boil. Pour boiling water into the flour and mix quickly with a spoon or whisk so that the flour “disperses” well in hot water.
  3. As soon as the dough starts to gather in a lump and cools slightly, we transfer it to the table, slightly dusty with flour. Knead thoroughly. The dough should be quite soft, elastic, and not sticky to your hands.
  4. Divide the dough into 6-7 equal parts. Roll out each part of the dough into a thin cake with a rolling pin. Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Put the flatbread in a dry frying pan without oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Then turn the cake over and fry for about 1-2 minutes. Then we put the finished cake on a plate, cover it with a towel so that it does not get aired, and proceed to fry the next cake.
  6. We put the finished pita cakes on top of each other in a pile and cover them with a towel or plate. We leave it under a towel for about 20-30 minutes – so the pita bread will remain soft and elastic even after cooling. Serve ready-made choux pastry lavash with melted cheese or any other filling to your taste.
