Hummus from Peas at Home

The mouthwatering and hearty pea hummus is very easy to make in your kitchen. The dish turns out to be colorful, aromatic, it can be served as an appetizer or as a side dish for baked meat, fish or vegetables.

Cook: 4  hour

Servings: 3-4

Ingredients

  • Dried peas – 300 grams
  • Lemon Juice – 1 Teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tbsp
  • Ground sweet paprika – 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric – 0.5 Teaspoons
  • Salt – 0.5 Teaspoons
  • Ground black pepper – 3 Pinches
  • Ground thyme – 0.5 Teaspoons

Directions

  1. Prepare your ingredients.
  2. Purchase dried split peas at a grocery store or supermarket. Place in a deep bowl or salad bowl, rinse with water several times. Then boil water and pour boiling water into a container so that it covers the product on your finger. Leave it on for at least 2-3 hours – during this time the legumes will absorb water and swell.
  3. Rinse the swollen peas again and pour into a cauldron, a stewpan with a non-stick bottom.
  4. Add salt, hot water and place on the stove. Bring to a boil, remove the resulting foam and boil on medium heat for about 1-1.5 hours until soft.
  5. Boiled peas will almost completely absorb the liquid. If it remains, pour it into a bowl, but do not pour it out.
  6. Transfer the boiled peas to a deep container and steam with a hand blender. If the mass is thick, add a little of the drained liquid left over from cooking the peas.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix vegetable oil, preferably cold-pressed olive oil, with all the spices and herbs.
  8. Place the pea hummus in a deep bowl, make depressions in the mass and pour the aromatic oil into them. Serve, everyone will mix the dish on their own.
