Baked Potatoes with Bacon (in Cans)

An interesting way to cook potatoes is to bake them with lard and onions in jars in the oven. This method will be especially convenient for those who want to pamper themselves and their loved ones with baked potatoes, but there are no suitable molds or pots. The potatoes are amazing and taste like a cross between fried, baked, and stewed potatoes.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes – 1.5 kg
  • Lard – 200 g
  • Bulb onions – 1 pc. (120 g)
  • Butter – 25 g
  • Dried basil (or other herbs) – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste

Directions

  1. Prepare the required ingredients.
  2. Peel the potatoes, rinse the tubers and pat dry on a kitchen towel.
  3. Slice the potatoes into thin slices or semicircles if the potatoes are large.
  4. Transfer the potatoes to a large bowl.
  5. Peel the onion and cut into half rings.
  6. Transfer the onion to the potatoes.
  7. Cut the bacon into thin slices. You can take any fat – salted or fresh, with or without meat layers. I used salted lard without the skin.
  8. Transfer the bacon to a bowl of potatoes and onions. Leave a few slices of lard.
  9. Toss the potato slices, onion, and lard.
  10. Add salt (if the lard is salty, use salt with care), black pepper and dried basil (or other herbs to your liking). Stir the potatoes again.
  11. Grease jars with a volume of 0.5 liters with butter. The number of ingredients is calculated for 3 cans.
  12. Place the potatoes with lard and onions in prepared jars, tamping tightly.
  13. Spread the remaining pieces of bacon on top.
  14. Cover the necks of the jars with cling foil and press it against the jars in the form of lids.
  15. Now put the jars of potatoes in the cold oven and turn it on 180 degrees. Bake potatoes in a jar for 1 hour 30 minutes (countdown from the moment the oven is turned on).
  16. After that, turn off the oven, open the door and leave it there for 5 minutes, and only then remove the jars from the oven.
  17. Potatoes baked with bacon, in jars, ready.
  18. Serve hot, tasty, juicy, and aromatic potatoes to the table.
